#BestformyPets All Natural Tripe Stick Chews Review + Giveaway!

tripe stick chews 00

Sadie & Clover love #BestformyPets products!  In fact they know exactly what the package looks like so when I get a order in the mail they go crazy!   Our pups have tried both the Bully Sticks and now the Tripe Stick Chews and they couldn’t be happier with them.

I love that these treats are 100% pure beef and 100% digestable.  They are chemical, preservative, and additive free treats that are very low in fat.  A treat that helps promote oral health and keeps your fur-babies teeth clean and strong is always a plus in my book.

These treats also give your pups a sense of comfort and help relieve stress.  We can’t always be home with our pups as much as we want…Sadie our Cocker Spaniel is a very attention needing dog and she gets really stressed when we leave her home alone.  So usually we will give her one prior to leaving the house so that she can have something to do while we are out and about.

You can purchase these treats on Amazon here.  They are currently on sale for $14.57 for a 6-oz bag.  That’s a savings of $11.40…the original price is $25.97.  Best for my Pets stands behind their products 1005% and always offer their money-back guarantee in case you are not satisfied with your purchase.

DIY Book Page Wreath

DIY Book Page Wreath

Hey friends!

Hope you are enjoying the beautiful sunshine this week.  In NC it’s been very warm, bright, and sunny all week and I’ve been spending a lot of my time outside catching some all natural Vitamin D!

My friend showed me how to make these adorable Book Page Wreaths last week and I loved them so much that I thought I would share!  I’ve already made one more so I would have a set.  They look so lovely hanging up on the wall.  I’m going to hang them up in my little reading nook corner of my bedroom!

DIY Book Page Wreath

They are really easy to make all you need is a book (preferably one you LOVE…in this case she purchased a copy of Under the Tuscan Sun which is a favorite book of ours), some glue (either a glue gun or just some Elmer’s glue will work fine), and a round piece of cardboard.  Here is a tutorial for one if you are interested in making your own.

I found a whole bunch of these DIY Book Page Wreaths on Pinterest here.  So many lovely ideas!  These are perfect gifts for a book lover!  I definitely want to try to make the Rose Book Page Wreath next.

What DIY projects have you been working on this week?

Piri-Piri Chicken

Blue Apron Review: Piri-Piri Chicken with Coconut-Smashed Plantains & Stewed Collard Greens

Blue Apron 01 Blue Apron 00

Blue Apron is a weekly subscription meal delivery service that offers farm-fresh ingredients and seasonal recipes.

Watch below to see how this meal delivery service works:

You have the option of selecting meals for two people or a family plan (which feeds 4-6 people) and you have the choice of vegetarian dishes, meat dishes, or fish dishes.   We received three meals for two people.  The cost for three meals a week for two people is right under $60.   Every meal comes with pre-portioned meal ingredients (just enough for the recipe-so there is no wasting of any kind) and almost everything you need to prepare the meal minus the basics like salt, pepper, oil, and pots and pans.

Our meals for the week were:

Blue Apron 00

Triple Pork Mazeman with Roasted Garlic & Pea Tips

Spring Casserole with Fennel, Asparagus, & Golden Raisins

Piri-Piri Chicken with Coconut-Smashed Plantains & Stewed Collard Greens

We chose to make the Piri-Piri Chicken dish for this review!  You can click on the links above to get the recipes for the meals we received.

All of the meals come in a cardboard box with an insulated bag that is lined with ice packs on the bottom so that your food will stay fresh and cold.  This is perfect for when you are not home at the time of the delivery…your food will be safe and sound until you arrive.

Below you can see the line up for all the ingredients that came in the box for the Piri-Piri Chicken dish.  Each dish comes with a recipe card that gives you a little history about the dish, a list of ingredients, and step-by-step directions for preparing the meal.

012

Blue Apron 01

The Piri-Piri Chicken dish ingredients included the following ingredients:

two bone-in, skin on chicken thighs

013

one plantain

014

two scallions

015

one bunch of collard greens

016

one lime

017

one red onion

018

two tablespoons of tomato paste

020

one 1″ piece of ginger

021

1/4 cup of coconut milk powder

023

one tablespoon of Piri-Piri spice blend

024

With the step-by-step instructions it was fairly simple to prepare this dinner.  I do recommend if you try this delivery service plan that you take time to prepare your ingredients prior to cooking the meat.  We waited and prepped everything as we were cooking the chicken and it seemed like it took longer than we had expected to get dinner ready.  Yeah…so we were a little disorganized for this first recipe.  Ha!

Prepared Chicken Thighs

stewed collard greens

Stewed Collard Greens coconut-smashed plantains

Coconut-Smashed Plantains

and for the grand finale:

Piri-Piri Chicken

Piri-Piri Chicken with Coconut-Smashed Plantains & Stewed Collard Greens

All Blue Apron meals are 500-700 calories per serving and take 35 minutes to prepare.  Blue Apron automatically enrolls you into their weekly delivery plan once you are a member but you do have the option to skip weeks if you know you are going to be out of town or if you don’t like the selection of meals for the week.  It’s up to you if you want to continue the weekly deliveries or just keep it as an option for those weeks when you won’t have time to make a trip to the grocery store for meals.

Overall, I think this is a great idea for anyone who has a busy and hectic schedule.  It allows you to spend more time with your family and hopefully you will involve them in the cooking process.  For right under $60 bucks a week you have three meals with all the ingredients included to prepare for your family.  I spend more than that on three meals every time I go to the grocery store and most of the time I have to go back to the store because I forgot something.

You can find Blue Apron on their website here, facebook here, twitter here, instagram here, and pinterest here.

I received a box from Blue Apron in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Blogging for Books: John Shaw’s Guide to Digital Nature Photography

john shaw's digital nature photography book 00

John Shaw is a very well known nature and travel photographer.  His photos are simply beautiful and stunning.  He’s one of the reasons why I have such a passion for nature photography!

John has been a professional nature photographer since the 70’s and his work has been published in many publications-including National Geographic among others.  He offers six books and a total of ten e-books.  This book that I received free courtesy of Blogging for Books-John Shaw’s Guide to Digital Nature Photography is his latest book!

Nature, landscapes, and wildlife have a special place in my heart and always will.  It’s so peaceful to go out for a nature walk…even in your own backyard!  You will be surprised at what you find once you start to focus on the little things.

John has a blog {see here} and he also offers e-books and workshops for those interested in learning more about nature photography.

john shaw's digital nature photography 02

This book covers some of the basics including what gear you should use (hence, this is a guide to digital nature photography), how to set up many menu options of your camera-including image quality, RAW recording, white balance, picture control, color space, and many more options.  The list really goes on and on!   He also shares a section on Tripods & Heads, Filters, and Flash in the first chapter.

Chapter two is all about Getting Started-including topics on Working in Stops, Exposure Modes, Metering and Metering Patterns, Manual Exposure, Autoexposure & Exposure Compensation, Proper exposure and Histograms, and High ISO.

Chapter three is all about Lenses!  He goes into great detail about certain topics like Depth of Field and Focusing a Lens.  Chapter four is about Composition, Chapter five consist of helpful information on Close-Ups, and the last and final Chapter six is all about John’s gear and his settings, his work in the field, and some great tips on working in the digital darkroom.

I see myself referring back to this book on a regular basis and John’s expert tips and advice will help anyone that is wanting to venture into the art of nature photography-whether you are a beginner or intermediate photographer. This book is also wonderful to  place on your coffee table for a conversation piece for guests.  His photography work is simply the best and anyone who enjoys nature will love his work.

indoor s'mores 04a

Indoor S’mores!!

indoor s'mores 04a

I know…I know…Indoor S’mores are just not the same as being at a campfire and getting your messy on out by the moonlight.  But these babies are definitely ah-mazing when you are stuck inside on a rainy day and want a sweet treat!

My niece and nephew have never tried S’mores before and I wanted them to experience them whether or not they were indoor or outdoor S’mores.  I have promised them that I would take them camping this summer and although I know Dakota is looking forward to fishing more than anything, I know he might just be a bit excited about roasting some hot dogs and making some S’mores outside in the good ol’ outdoors.

Little Ms. Saniyah helped me assemble the s’mores…she loves to help her Aunt “G” bake and is oh so excited every time I ask her if she wants to help me bake something!

I used these specific ingredients:

Honey Maid Graham Cracker Squares

Honey Maid shares a few different ways to make S’mores on their website.  You can go here to check them out.  They also have some fun ideas & recipes that you can check out.

Kraft Jet-Puffed S’moreMallows (perfect size mallows for the graham cracker squares)

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bars

I used this recipe from Food Network-recipe courtesy of Gale Gand.

Ooey, gooey and oh so MESSY…but totally worth it!

Dakota & Saniyah absolutely loved them!

saniyah 02 S’mores are an essential camping tradition!  I’m so excited to take them camping this summer.  I know they will enjoy the experience more so than they did this time around.

What are your summer plans?  Do you go camping?  If so, what do you look forward to?  I love roasting hot dogs and marshmallows and reading spooky stories under the moonlight.  I’m hoping to get my other niece and nephew to come up from Georgia for this upcoming camping adventure.

zucchini zoodles 01

Zucchini & Carrot Zoodles

I received this Vegetable Spiral Slicer from Cucina E Larte and Snagshout for testing purposes and I knew exactly what I was going to make before I even got this product in the mail.  Zucchini noodles…aka Zucchini Zoodles!!

The spiral slicer is designed to make raw vegetables in a julienne format.  It works great on most vegetables including zucchini, carrots, cucumbers, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and more!  It’s amazingly easy to use this slicer…all you do is place the vegetable on one end of the slicer (it has two available julienne sizes-a medium cut and a large cut) and you twist the vegetable like sharpening a pencil and you get perfect spirals each time.

What comes with the Vegetable Spiral Slicer?

1 slicer

a protective cap

quick reference quide

a cleaning brush

zucchini zoodles 01 zucchini zoodles 00

Zucchini and carrot zoodles are a great way to get your veggies in!  Zoodles are a healthier substitute for pasta.  There are so many recipes on Pinterest for these zoodles.  I’ve dedicated a whole board for just Zoodles…you can see my board here to get some ideas for some recipes!

So far my faves are the recipes for Skinny Shrimp Scampi with Zucchini Noodles , Spiralized Greek Cucumber Salad with Lemon and Feta, and Baked Ziti with Zucchini noodles!

You can also simply saute the zoodles in some olive oil for a side dish.  Zoodles will change the way you eat your veggies!  So nutritious and super yummy.  Even kids will like the spirals.

carrot zoodles

The carrot zoodles are perfect to add onto salads!  I prepare them at the beginning of the week and store them in the fridge so I have them ready to top my salads for the week.  I also saute some zucchini and carrot zoodles at least twice a week in olive oil and serve with chicken or fish.  A perfect pair for a well balanced meal.

Have you tried Zoodles yet?  If so…what vegetables did you use?  I’ll be trying a butternut squash and sweet potato next over the weekend.  I’m excited to use my vegetable spiral slicer over the summer with all my fresh veggies coming in from our garden.

I received this product for a discount in exchange for my honest review courtesy of Cucina E L’arte and Snagshout.

gopure peppermint oil 00

goPure Naturals 100% Peppermint Oil is a Grade A and Therapeutic Grade oil that contains no additives, no fragrance added, and no preservatives.  It stimulates, energizes, invigorates, and has a cooling effect when applied to the skin!  I’ve used Peppermint Oil in the past to relieve headaches, muscle pains and aches, to repel mosquitoes (they love me to death-especially around this time of the year), for aromatherapy in my diffuser, as well as giving me a burst of energy from time to time…kinda like a pick me up!

It’s also been known to help with indigestion, respiratory problems, headache, nausea, fever, stomach and bowel spasms and has been used for years.  Peppermint Oil has been a staple in medicine cabinets for generations and continues to be the world’s most common essential oil.

Peppermint oil is an anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, and a natural disinfectant that you can use in your home.  Here’s a list of things around the house you can use the oil for:

You can add a few drops to your trash can to give it a minty fresh and clean scent

Add a few drops to your favorite cleaning agent and use spray in bathrooms & kitchens for an antibacterial cleaning agent

Place a few drops into a spray bottle and add some warm water then spray around the house {especially around windowsills and doorways} to keep the mice, roaches, flies and fleas out of your home

Use in a diffuser to get your home smelling nice, clean, and fresh

This particular Peppermint Oil is mainly used for aromatherapy use, however, you may dilute the oil with a carrier oil such as jojoba oil and almond oil for other uses.  It is safe to apply to the Pure Peppermint Oil to your skin and can be used with all skin types…even with sensitive skin I had no problems or issues using this product on my skin.

You can purchase this specific Pure Peppermint Oil here on Amazon for $13.89 on sale now!  I have loved using this oil for aromatherapy, for headache/muscle aches & pain relief, as well as a cleaning agent!  There are so many different uses for this oil and you can’t go wrong with purchasing a bottle or two!  goPure Naturals offers a 90-day money back guarantee on all purchases.
